Coding

This for the last few weeks we have been doing Hour of Code, which is were our teacher (Whaea Teena) sets courses for us, for example app lab. It teaches us how to use this and what we can do with it and show us videos of what we need to do, but we can do that and then customise it in our own way to make it how we want it.

Also you can make projects which you do by yourself with no help, for example you can make a ping pong game, which is where you need to move the thing that you hit the ball with and try hit the ball and make it go in the goal.

I am most proud of my writing because I have improved lots and I now can write really descriptive and interesting stories that lots of people like and enjoy listening to.  Also I enjoy listening to my own stories and hearing how good my stories are getting.

My hardest challenge this year was nikau art because it was really hard to get it perfect the way I wanted it, but in the end I got there, just the way I wanted it to look like and it was amazing. We also got to share our awesome nikau art at the assembly which was pretty cool.

Throughout term 3 we did tahi rua toru tech, a challenge to help our school or the community. In my group was Derek, the Seeker, Amber- Jade, the Secretary and me, the leader. We made early math for kids. We made it so kids from age 4-6 or kid's older who struggle with math because some kids don't like math so we made an app so you do 3 math questions then a mini game and there are different math difficulties to make it fun for the kids so they want to learn their math, because if they didn't learn their math, they would have to do tutoring and it would be harder to get a job.

Three of the teams from our class made it into the regional and one team made it into the nationals. Although we didn't make it into the regionals, we are still proud of how we did.

I learned how to work with people who I wouldn't normally work with, but we were resilient, and we worked together, tried our best and had so much fun during this awesome challenge. Also here is a link to our Tahi Rua Toru Tech blog.

Coding

This term we have been starting coding. The all year 5's have to do CS-First in scratch, and the year 6's that also wanted to do it. If you weren't a  doing CS-First and you were a year 6 you get to do tynker. I choose tynker because it's more advanced than scratch and plus you get told what to do in CS-First.

Tahi Rua Toru Tech

This week is the second to last week of tahi rua toru tech because next week  we are going to be judged, and we are confident that we will probably make it in. This is our most recent blog post:

Hi my Name is Amber- Jade  and i am the  Masters Of  Tech  Secretary ,I am going to share you my idea before we chose Early  Math For Kids , My idea was to help the blind and deaf ,  the reason i chose this idea is because most blind people can not pay for expensive glasses that help them  see ,  and for the deaf they have to pay for really special  hearing aids , we had a bit of pivot’s with that idea but then we chose Early Math For Kids   because my brother has special need’s and he need’s to learn math and also for other kids as well  because  they don’t like math, and prefer to muck around , so this is the conclusion of my idea

Our tahi rua toru tech blog

In our class we are doing tahi rua toru tech which is a comp for electronic stuff that help people in the world. We have to make blogs together and post it to the tahi rua toru tech website. This is our blog which me, Amber-Jade and Derek made.

Roles: Leader: Cahn, Secretary: Amber Jade, Seeker: Derek

Our group is called Masters of Tech we are doing a project for kids called Early Maths For Kids the
age limit is three to six years old. We are using scratch for this project, if the kids get the three
questions right they get to play a  mini game called the dot maze game, it is where you have a ball
as your character and you have to get through obstacles and if you make it to the end you have to
answer more harder questions and you get another minigame. We hope we will make it into the
reganials.

Some steps of what we need to do:

  • Step one : find easy math questions

  •       Step two : create the document for the questions

  • Step three gather all the questions and decide what ones we use

The title connects to the story because Percy Jackson is sent on a mission to find the master bolt before

Why I hate werewolves!

Chapter one

It was late at night, the sky was dark, i’m in the forest hunting for warthogs. Just then I heard something running, and then I hear a howl, I look out from behind the tree which I am hiding behind, get my aim right and Bong! The arrow went straight though the pig. I crouch and go to collect the warthog, I get smashed into by something furry and strong.

I go rolling into the bushes. I take a peek through the bush and it see a massive manlike wolfeman with blood red teeth coming toward me.

Chapter two

I don’t want to move because he might hear me and chase me.

Matariki

Matariki Art Rotation
By Cahn Corbett

Two days ago was amazing. Wednesday 6th June 2018 at Oratia school there was a Matariki Arts Rotation for the Tuakana. We learned to Make Kite out of bamboo flax and cardboard by working in a team and other cool stuff. We did this because it is Matariki on June 14th 2018 and we are going to have a haungi on June 21st 2018.

We did many fun activities including: Ki o Rahi, Kite making and Matariki star art while listening to Maori stories. They were very fun and most of them were new to me but they were all fun especially Ki o Rahi because I had to rip the tags off everyone who ran.

My biggest challenge was the kite making because I had to tie the cardboard to the bamboo  with the flax which was really complicated because you had to do them in this weird knot.
Also I had to rip the flax into little strips.

My favorite activity was Ki o Rahi because it was fun and was a team game. Team X had to run and touch the cone’s, it doesn't matter how many, then you try get to the middle without getting ripped. Team O needed to rip team X and the strikers need to throw the ball at the barrell past team X defenders.

This Matariki Art Rotation was awesome and fun. I learned so much that most of it I learned and I haven't heard it before. It was awesome and I wish I could do it again. If I do one again this one that I did at Oratia school would probably be better I really enjoyed it and if you do a Matariki Art Rotation I bet you will like it to.

Student Leader speech

This year we had student leaders. We had to make speeches. This is mine I hope you like it.

Hi i’m Cahn and I’m running for Student Leader. I would love to get a chance at being a Student Leader.
These are the reasons why I think I should be a Student Leader are…

I will show the Oratia school values. I will be responsible and show respect to all students and teachers. I will help anyone that needs help and I will always be kind to others. Also I will let anyone play with me and I won’t make fun of them if they are struggling playing the game instead I will teach them how to play. I will try and solve arguments and make anyone who is upset feel better. If someone is being mean to me I  will ignore them, go away from them and tell a teacher if I need to. I hope you enjoyed my speech, thanks for listening and please vote for me!

Neuroplasticity

What is Neuroplasticity?

Neuroplasticity is like growth mindset and resilience combined. It’s where you try something new and keep on trying till you get it and then the pathway gets stronger and stronger.

How does Neuroplasticity work?

Neuroplasticity works  by changing pathways in your brain when you try new things and keep on trying till you get it and then doing it more, than the pathways get stronger until you don’t even use the other pathway because it get really weak.

Can you rewire your brain?

Yes, it is possible and easy to rewire your brain. You try new things and and try it more. Also you need to use five pathways in your brain because one wouldn't be strong enough to create  new pathways in your brain. That way you have rewired your brain, because you rewired it so it does something else.
